Tour Description

canyoning_GolfitoCanyoning, also know as Canyoneering, Abseiling, Kloofing, or Waterfall Rappelling, is the most exciting new adventure sport to hit the US, Europe, Japan, South Africa and now the Osa Peninsula!

Canyoning Costa Rica offers travelers the opportunity to explore some of Costa Rica’s most fantastic waterfalls. With canyoneering certified and bilingual guides on hand, you will rappel down several gushing falls— An experience that you will never forget!

You’ll put on a helmet and harness, then brace yourself for non-stop action. Imagine yourself surrounded by lush rain forest inside a spectacular canyon, full of tropical waterfalls and thousands of years of architecture carved out by nature, with surprises each step of the way.

Our awesome canyons are located just a short distance from the town of Golfito. Prepare to get wet (!) and experience the thrill of a lifetime.

The tour begins with a 10 minute ride to la Purruja Village. Then, we will hike for one kilometer to the top of the hill, and to the waterfalls. Once here, your guides will fit you with canyoning equipment and explain the proper way to descend the falls. When you’re comfortable with the procedure, you’ll begin rappelling down the first waterfall, divided into four sections (35 meters, 16 meters, 12 meters and 10 meters), at the base, the creek leads into a pristine canyon. From here on, there are six smaller waterfalls to rappel down, a few swimming-holes and a couple short jumps. Once finished, your guides will help you back to the vehicles and you’ll head back to Golfito.

This tour can be enjoyed by anyone in moderate/good physical condition. It is child friendly and no experience is needed.

What to Bring with You:

We recommend comfortable shoes (closed-toe) that can get wet with a good grip, i.e. tennis shoes, hiking boots, canyoning shoes or water-sport shoes such as Tevas or Keens. Quick drying clothes (surf shorts, synthetic fabrics), change of clothes, and towel. Apply sunblock before leaving your hotel room. Only waterproof cameras!

And one more thing, don’t forget to bring your smiles and sense of adventure!

We provide:

Safety helmets, harnesses, life jackets (let us know if you need one), and all necessary equipment for rappelling.

What to Expect:

Our Canyoning adventure generally takes about 4-5 hours.

The tour includes: transport, snacks, guides, gear, a short training beforehand, and transport back to the pier.

Safety being our main priority, we always keep a close eye on the weather conditions. It may be necessary to cancel a Canyoning tour due to heavy rains. In this event, we can offer you another time or date for the same tour.

All guides are trained in Wilderness First Aid and CPR, and certified Canyon Leaders by the American Canyoneering Association (http://www.canyoneering.net/) There are daily safety checks on all the equipment.

There are two tours each day.

Tour Times: 7:00 AM and 01:15 PM. Tours last around 4-5 hours. Upon request, we can start this tour at 9:30 AM from Golfito as well.

Important: CCR can only accept a maximum of 2 children under 100 lbs (46 kilos) per tour – the reason being that each child must be accompanied by an extra guide. If a member of your party weighs less than 100 lbs, the guides will determine if they’ll need to be accompanied by a guide down the waterfalls. If so, a fee of $30 will need to be paid to the operator upon arrival. If the guides determine that it is not necessary to have an extra guide, there is no additional fee.

NOTE: We cannot take anyone on an advanced Canyoning trip unless you have prior Canyoning experience. We will be happy to give you further training by going onto our Purruja Canyon tour first, if you are interested in doing more advanced trips.
