Drake Bay is a popular town on the “other side” of Puerto Jimenez – the west Pacific side of the Peninsula.
Drakes Bay or Bahia Drake is famous for the Island Isla de Caño or Caño Island. From Drake you can book diving and snorkeling trips to the famous island and see manta rays, sharks, whale sharks, turtles, and many more beautiful marine creatures.
Visitors can also enter the Corcovado National Park from the Drake Bay side – but only by boat. The only way to HIKE into the park (and the way you’ll see most animals) is through the Puerto Jimenez side. The boat ride from Drake Bay takes around 2 hours, and you’ll be dropped off right in front of the Ranger Station Sirena.
The only way to reach Drake Bay from Puerto Jimenez is through a dirt road. You may hire a taxi or take a rental car. There are also flights to Drake Bay from San Jose, or you may take a boat from Sierpe which is further North and close to Palmar Norte.
Drake Bay offers beautiful hotels and lodges, and we’re glad to help you get set up for your stay. Just let us know you’re interested in Drake Bay and we’re glad to help you!
