Where We Are

Osa Tropical’s office is located in the small and beautiful town of Puerto Jimenez on the Osa Peninsula. Our office, Osa Tropical (Tica), is a two-story, white cement building located approximately 250 meters southwest from the heart of downtown Puerto Jiménez or 25 meters west of the  Banco Nacional.  We are really easy to find, and every local or resident in town knows where our office is – our office is also commonly called the “Nature Air Office”.

We can give you further directions to your destination, or if you need to call us once you are in Costa Rica, feel free to do so at (506)2735 5062, (506)2 735 5722 (the area code 506 is only used when calling outside of Costa Rica). See you soon!

Getting to Puerto Jimenez and the Osa Peninsula

By Air

All international flights come into Costa Rica through the Juan Santamaria Airport, in San Jose. There are daily flights on many major airlines, including Continental, American Airlines, USAir and Lacsa (the national airline of Costa Rica). Once you get to San Jose, there are two ways you can get down to Puerto Jimenez, by air or by land.

By Land

There are two main ways to get to Puerto Jimenez by land, either by car or bus. The distance is roughly 200 miles, and it can take from 7-10 hours depending on the weather conditions, time of day, type of vehicle, and driver.

By Car

There are two major routes to get to Puerto Jimenez from San Jose. The more traveled route is along the Pan-American Highway, which leaves south from San Jose through Cartago and over the mountains of Cerro de la Muerte, going down into San Isidro, and onto the Osa Peninsula. The other route, the coastal route, leaves west from San Jose and goes via Quepos, and then south down the coast until it meets the Pan-American Highway in Palmar Norte, then onto the Osa Peninsula. By road from San Jose take the Inter-American ( Pan Am ) Highway ( Ruta 2 ) to San Isidro de General ( 2 – 3.5 hrs ).

Continue through Buenos Aires ( 1 – 1.5 Hrs ) to Palmar Norte ( 1 – 1.5 hrs ). Thirty-three kilometers past Palmar Norte take a right turn at Chacarita. At Chacarita you will see a service station by the name of “Corcovado”. The right turn to Puerto Jimenez is directly after the service station (mileage to Puerto Jimenez (77 kilometers). On this paved road you will drive 44 km to Rincon where the pavement ends, 33 more kms will take you through La Palma and eventually on to Puerto Jimenez ( 1 – 2 hrs) ). You may go straight to your destination once having reached Puerto Jimenez, or you may stop by our office, Osa Tropical, and we’ll give you the directions to your destination. You will need a good 4-wheel drive vehicle when driving to Puerto Jimenez. Renting a car in Costa Rica only requires a driver’s license and credit card.  If you rent a car in Pto. Jimenez and want to drive back to San Jose, there is a drop off fee of $125/one-way fee. Expect to pay between $USD465 – 850 weekly.
